Treatment at Choice Veterinary Specialists
Caring for the extensive needs of pets with respiratory issues requires the use of many specialized diagnostic tools and procedures that aren't commonly available at most veterinary clinics.
Some of the technology and tools that our specialist vets use to diagnose and treat pets with respiratory issues include:
-
Digital Radiography (X-Rays)
Virtually all pets with lung disease or suspected lung complications will require radiographs. A radiograph, or X-ray, is a painless and non-invasive procedure that allows our veterinarians to look inside the body and reveal information that may not be discernible from the outside.
-
Tracheal Stents
A stent may be used to open up the trachea in cases of severe tracheal collapse. This procedure is done through the mouth with the use of fluoroscopy.
-
Bronchoscopy
A bronchoscopy allows us to have a direct visualization of lung airways and also allows us to perform foreign body removal.
-
Fluoroscopy
Fluoroscopy is a medical procedure that uses several pulses of an X-ray to make a real-time video of tissues inside your pet's body. We often use fluoroscopy to evaluate the degree and extent of tracheal collapse.
-
Echocardiography
An echocardiogram uses electrodes to check your heart rhythm and ultrasound technology to see how blood moves through your heart. This is particularly important in Westminster - since high blood pressure in the lungs is common here at our high altitude.
